ListenLater provides radio stations with the ability to upload and archive all of their content to StreamOn’s private Internet cloud – automatically and in real-time while broadcasts are taking place. Through simple, web-based tools DJs and program directors are then able to tag and select specific “moments of interest” in real-time and redistribute this content – when they want – digitally across multiple channels much faster than via traditional means.
DJs and broadcasters can encourage listeners to revisit songs or programs provided by the station by simply clicking on the “ListenLater” link on the station’s Website. There, listeners will be able to enjoy “DVR-Like” capabilities such as replay, pause, rewind and fast forward a station’s chosen live audio content within moments of its original broadcast.
ListenLater was also developed as a crucial “revenue-generating” tool that allows radio broadcasters to truly monetize their streams through the following, two-pronged approach:
-
Capture Non Live Listeners Directly on Web Site: When non-live listeners click the “ListenLater” link on a station’s web site, original advertising can be rebroadcast again, giving advertisers another opportunity to capture this additional, new targeted group of consumers. In addition, the technology enables stations to replace the ads with new ads on the fly, providing new advertisers with the chance to share their ads with the station’s listeners.
-
Monetize through Social Media: ListenLater can help DJs or program managers capture “moments of interest” during live broadcasts – such as humorous anecdotes, trivia questions, concert information, celebrity interviews and more – for social media distribution. After flagging such content, DJs can customize it with advertising and post it to the station’s Facebook, Twitter or other social media channels.
In addition, loyal radio station listeners who click on the ListenLater link will be able to share content selected by the station with friends and family through social media channels, thus creating a new listener base for the station. When each segment ends, listeners are automatically transferred to the station’s currently streaming live broadcast, where advertisements will be inserted and shared with this new, fresh group of listeners.
“ListenLater represents an evolutionary leap forward in audio content creation and distribution for both broadcasters and listeners,” said Roger Charest, President of StreamOn. “For broadcasters, ListenLater makes it easy to quickly repackage and redistribute their live content to capture non-listening audiences, greatly increase distribution and grow their revenue streams through digital advertising. For listeners, we’re giving them the ability to replay live radio broadcasts and capture and share memorable radio content and experiences with others via social media.”
How It Works
ListenLater’s technology accelerates and simplifies the often tedious, labor-intensive and time-consuming process of transforming live content into podcasts or other on-demand programs, or for use with social media.
-
Streamlined Podcast Creation: ListenLater can automatically create podcasts containing non-copyrighted content, such as news, sports and other feature programs, and immediately publish them on the station’s website or upload them as an iTunes podcast.
Since music and other copyrighted material is unauthorized for downloadable distribution, ListenLater makes it easy to strip out this material and stitch together the unaffected content to create a podcast. The technology analyzes and separates the live broadcast into color-coded categories – e.g., music, spoken word, station ID, commercials, etc. – for easy visualization and one-click editing, thereby greatly reducing production time and overhead costs.
-
On-Demand Programming: Broadcasters can choose to archive content and make it available “on demand” to their listeners as streaming audio. Because the program is not downloadable, stations are able to rebroadcast copyrighted material and preserve the integrity of the original content. ListenLater also lets stations dynamically swap out advertising, which greatly expands their ad inventory and increases content monetization.
-
Social Media Distribution:
ListenLater enables program managers to capture “moments of interest” during live broadcasts for social media distribution. After flagging such content, DJs can customize it with additional commentary or advertising and post it to the station’s Facebook, Twitter or other social media channels. They can also redirect listeners to the station’s live streaming broadcast.
